Key Worker letter from RCT

Dear Parent(s), Carer(s),

I recently wrote to all parents/carers to explain end-of-term arrangements for our schools. This afternoon, there has been a further announcement from Welsh Government directing local authorities to make urgent provision for high priority key workers for the last week of term.
This is to support front line workers who are essential in the fight against Covid-19.
If you are a frontline worker and you do not have childcare in place for your primary aged child (and secondary age for special schools) for the last 3 days of term, can you please advise school by sending an email of your needs to: before midday on Monday December 14th. Applications cannot be approved after this time unless there are exceptional circumstances.
Key workers are defined as:
– Blue light workers, including NHS, Police and the Fire service staff
– Social care staff (including care workers)
– Childcare or education staff
Please only apply for this provision if your child is primary aged or attends a special school or PRU.
In order to ensure that we mitigate all risks and keep everyone safe, please ensure that you do not apply for childcare if you are not scheduled to work and have not yet exhausted all possible childcare avenues. DO NOT APPLY FOR THIS PROVISION IF YOU OR YOUR PARTNER ARE ABLE TO WORK FROM HOME.
It may be necessary for your child’s headteacher to request further supporting evidence (eg ID badge) confirming your role to establish if you meet eligibility.
Our aim is to ensure that we enable those on the front line to continue to undertake their duties if they have no access to childcare, whilst also mitigating the risks to our children and staff in school settings. Please do not send your child to school if any family member displays Covid symptoms or needs to self-isolate.
Thank you for your contribution to supporting our communities in the fight against Covid-19.

Many thanks,

Gaynor Davies
Director of Education and Inclusion Services.
